I am an employer

Do you own a business or are you a manager in a worplace that hire backpackers ?

Isabelle, cofounder of 88daystowork, working as an apple picker in Tasmania

88daystowork is a free collaborative project, has no commercial purpose, and has been created by non official and non professional organization. The aim of this website is to help Working Holiday Visa holders complete their 88 days of Regional Work. We hope that employers will find it useful, and will become very important actors in this project.

The website has been launched in July 2017. We are currently working to add an employer section to make it easier for employers to :

  • Register as an employer
  • Update their contact details
  • And many more features...

88daystowork has been created in July 2017 by two Working Holiday Visa holders sub 417 (Arnaud and Isabelle) that are working and travelling in Australia since January 2017.

Arnaud and Isabelle already worked in 3 differents farms in Tasmania and in Western Australia (as fruitpickers, farmhands and pruners). They enjoyed a lot these experiences, and are thankful to employers and to the WHV program that makes it possible for them to work in Australia while visiting this beautiful country, and getting to know more about its culture.

They created 88daystowork for free while traveling to help employers and WHV holders enjoy all the great opportunities that the WHV program can provide!

Not yet. The website has been launched in July 2017. We are currently working to add an employer section to make it easier for employers to :

  • Register as an employer
  • Update their contact details
  • And many more features...

Until the employer section is not updated on the website, you have two possibilities to add your business :

  • Contact us and give us useful information about your business (name, address, contact details, etc.), and we will add it for you on the website.
  • Registered for free, then go to « Find an employer » -> click on « + » to the bottom right of the map

To add your business on our website, you need to offer jobs that are undertaken in a specific field or industry :

  • Plant and Animal Cultivation
  • Fishing and Pearling
  • Tree Farming and Felling
  • Mining
  • Construction

If your business offers jobs corresponding to one of the categories above, but is not located in the designated regional areas (that make the job eligible for the Second Year Visa), you will be able to add it on the website. However, this message will appear on your contact details : « This employer is not eligible for the 2nd year visa »

To know more about the Regional Work, please go to the FAQ -> « about the visa » -> « What counts as a “specified work in regional Australia” ? » or check the website border.com.au

Not at the moment. Being backpackers ourselves, we are aware that a lots of caravanparks and hostels are in contact with employers and help WHV holders to find jobs. Actually, we had our first job thanks to a very helpful caravanpark owner in Tasmania

But at the moment, only employers that offer jobs in Regional Work for visa 417 can be added (by users or employers themselves) on the website. Caravanparks and hostels do not offer Regional Work (for visa 417).

We are currently working to build an « employer section », and then we will probably add a an « accomodation section » to the website to help WHV holders to find accomodations that might be able to help them finding work, and offer others good services. If you are an owner of a caravanpark, a hostel, or any other type of accomodation, you are very welcome to contact us to suggest your ideas to improve the website and the coming « accomodation section ».

The website has been launched on the 19th July. We are currently working to add an employer section to make it easier for employers to update their contact details. In the meantime, please contact us directly on the website (click on « contact us »).

The majority of Working Holiday Visa holders who come in Australia to do Regional Work never worked in farms or construction jobs before in their country.

We thought it will be useful for them to share their personnal experience and advices concerning this type of jobs (to answer these questions : what are the tasks ? what are the weather conditions ? Is a special equipment needed ? Etc.).

Example of one of the first comments / reviews that a WHV holder wrote when the website was launched :

  • « I used to work for this farm and I can say it's a very good place to work and get the 88 days for a 2nd year visa. The farmers are very nice and honest person. The job is picking and packing limes, it's quite hard because the weather is very hot near Cairns, but still a good job. I recommend. » Flamin
